Understandably, no-one wants to think about their death. But preparing a will is one thing that you can do to help your family at a very difficult time.
If a will is in place, things are dealt with differently from a legal perspective than if you don’t have a will and the process for looking after your affairs is made much easier for the person you have chosen to take on this responsibility.
It’s a good idea to prepare a will if there are significant changes to your life, including the following:-
- If you get married
- If you get separated
- If you get divorced
- If you have a child
- If you acquire or dispose of assets, you may feel there is a need to make a new will but your will be applied considering the assets that you own at the time of your death. So if, for example, you include a house in your will and then sell it before your death, there is no real need to make a new will. Your will will be read in light of the assets that are in place.
